As organisations continue to embrace sustainability, Green Week @ Work has become an essential event for driving change and inspiring employees to take action. In 2024, we kicked off this initiative with a collection of creative and impactful ideas. Now, continuing our tradition into 2025, we’re excited to share the first five of ten innovative activities to engage your team during Green Week. Whether you’re looking to educate, empower, or inspire your colleagues, these activities will help you create a lasting impact on your workplace’s sustainability journey.
This Year’s First 5 Ideas:
1. Sustainability Pledge Wall: Create a physical or virtual pledge wall where employees commit to one specific sustainable action for the week. For example, they could pledge to take public transport, reduce food waste, or turn off lights when not in use. At the end of the week, share stories of how these actions made an impact. This activity fosters accountability and inspires others to follow suit.
2. Green Quiz Challenge: Organise a fun and interactive quiz focused on sustainability topics, such as climate change facts, renewable energy, biodiversity, or your organisation’s green initiatives. Host it in person or online to engage remote employees. Offer eco-friendly prizes, such as reusable bottles or plants, to participants. This is a great way to educate and engage your team while having fun.
3. Guided Green Week Events: Colectivo, in collaboration with sustainability experts such as Feebee Foran of Forager and breathwork guide Allan Muller, offers guided Green Week events designed to engage and inspire teams. These expert-led experiences include 90 minutes up to 2-hours of guided activities with your team available in April and May. These sessions help organisations create meaningful connections with nature while aligning with their Green Week goals.
4. Eco-Book Club: Launch a book club centred on sustainability. Start by selecting an engaging and accessible book and schedule a discussion during Green Week. Create a hybrid setup to include remote team members and encourage thought-provoking conversations about applying green principles at work and beyond.
5. Plant a Seed Campaign: Distribute seed packets or small plants for employees to take home, with instructions for care and a message about nurturing sustainability. For offices with outdoor spaces, organise a group planting session where employees can create a community garden or plant trees. This activity symbolises growth and long-term commitment to sustainability.
We hope these ideas inspire you to design a meaningful Green Week that not only raises awareness but fosters tangible change within your organisation. Stay tuned for the second part of our series, where we’ll share even more creative ways to make Green Week a success.
