At Colectivo, fostering sustainable practices and engaging organisations in meaningful climate action is at the heart of what we do. Continuing our yearly tradition, we’re thrilled to bring you another round of 10 Ideas for Green Week @ Work.
Last year’s ideas inspired organisations to innovate, collaborate, and act in ways that positively impacted their teams and communities. This year, we’re building on that momentum with fresh, actionable ideas to help you design Green Week activities that boost awareness, foster engagement, and drive lasting behaviour change. Let’s make 2025 an even greener year!
This Year’s Ideas:
1. Sustainability Pledge Wall
Create a physical or virtual pledge wall where employees commit to one specific sustainable action for the week. For example, they could pledge to take public transport, reduce food waste, or turn off lights when not in use. At the end of the week, share stories of how these actions made an impact. This activity fosters accountability and inspires others to follow suit.
2. Green Quiz Challenge
Organise a fun and interactive quiz focused on sustainability topics, such as climate change facts, renewable energy, biodiversity, or your organisation’s green initiatives. Host it in person or online to engage remote employees. Offer eco-friendly prizes, such as reusable bottles or plants, to participants. This is a great way to educate and engage your team while having fun.
3. Guided Green Week Events
Colectivo, in collaboration with sustainability experts such as Feebee Foran of Forager and breathwork guide Allan Mueller, offers guided Green Week events designed to engage and inspire teams. These expert-led experiences include 90 minutes up to 2-hours guided activities with your team, available in April and May. These sessions help organisations create meaningful connections with nature while aligning with their Green Week goals.
4. Eco-Book Club
Launch a book club centred on sustainability. Start by selecting an engaging and accessible book and schedule a discussion during Green Week. Create a hybrid setup to include remote team members and encourage thought-provoking conversations about applying green principles at work and beyond.
5. Plant a Seed Campaign
Distribute seed packets or small plants for employees to take home, with instructions for care and a message about nurturing sustainability. For offices with outdoor spaces, organise a group planting session where employees can create a community garden or plant trees. This activity symbolises growth and long-term commitment to sustainability.
6. Digital Declutter Day
Raise awareness about the environmental impact of digital storage by hosting a "declutter day." Encourage employees to delete unnecessary emails, files, and apps, which can reduce energy use in data centres. Provide a checklist for decluttering and tips for maintaining a tidy digital workspace. Celebrate the collective impact by sharing fun stats, like how many gigabytes were cleared.
7. Virtual Green Talk Series
Invite sustainability experts to give short, impactful talks on topics like climate action, circular economy practices, or biodiversity conservation. These talks can be live-streamed to ensure remote employees can participate. Record the sessions so employees can revisit them or share with others. The talks can spark new ideas and inspire actions across the organisation. Colectivo can help coordinate and facilitate these sessions, connecting you with expert speakers and ensuring a seamless experience.
8. Green Week Hackathon
Organise a one-day or week-long hackathon where employees form teams to tackle sustainability challenges within the organisation or community. For example, teams could brainstorm ways to reduce waste, improve energy efficiency, or support local green initiatives. Provide resources and mentorship, and offer recognition or support to implement the best ideas.
9. BYO Mug & Bottle Week
Promote a week-long initiative encouraging employees to bring their own reusable mugs and water bottles to work. Reduce disposable cup and bottle use by setting up hydration stations and offering discounts or incentives at on-site cafes. Recognise participants with a raffle or small rewards, and share the collective waste avoided during the week.
10. Green Gratitude Wall
Set up a physical or virtual wall where employees can share their gratitude for nature or sustainability efforts. Examples could include appreciating a colleague for starting a carpool group, celebrating a team’s waste-reduction efforts, or highlighting eco-friendly practices in the workplace. End Green Week by compiling these notes into a story or visual display to inspire ongoing efforts.
We hope these ideas spark inspiration for your Green Week activities this year!
