Ireland Approves 13 Sectoral Adaptation Plans: Here’s What It Means for Business, Resilience and Funding

The Irish Government has officially approved 13 new Sectoral Adaptation Plans (SAPs), a critical step in protecting our economy, society, and ecosystems from the growing risks of climate change.

These adaptation plans provide strategic direction across key sectors, with actions designed to manage increasing threats such as flooding, extreme weather events, supply chain disruption, and infrastructure failure.

And there’s good news for Irish businesses: organisations working to align with national climate goals may be eligible for Green Transition funding, available through Colectivo’s approved service offering. This support can help offset costs associated with planning and implementing green transition strategies in line with sectoral goals.

The Sectors Covered:

  1. Agriculture, Forestry & Seafood

  2. Biodiversity

  3. Built and Archaeological Heritage

  4. Communication Networks

  5. Electricity and Gas Networks

  6. Flood Risk Management

  7. Health

  8. Transport Infrastructure

  9. Tourism

  10. Water Services and Water Quality

  11. National Adaptation Framework (NAF)

Each plan sets out the anticipated risks, priority actions, and long-term resilience strategies needed within that sector, with strong emphasis on joined-up thinking, nature-based solutions, and equity for vulnerable communities.

🔍 Key Focus Areas Across the Plans:

  • Risk mapping and scenario planning

  • Nature-based solutions and ecosystem restoration

  • Climate-proofing infrastructure and operations

  • Upskilling and workforce resilience

  • Community and stakeholder engagement

  • Coordination across sectors and departments

💡 What This Means for Business

For private and public sector organisations, these plans mark a shift in expectations. Climate adaptation is no longer just a government responsibility, it’s a business imperative.

At Colectivo, we help organisations of all sizes embed adaptation and resilience into their sustainability roadmaps, including through strategic planning, programme design, and project implementation.

As a registered Green Service Provider under the Enterprise Ireland Green Transition Fund, we can help eligible organisations access funding to support their work in these areas.
