Juan Alcalde is an architect, project manager, and educator focused on social placemaking, community-based impact, and the role of the built environment in shaping more inclusive futures. Based in Madrid, he brings extensive experience across architecture, urban planning, sustainability, higher education, and social impact, connecting spatial design with learning, collaboration, and community development.

His work spans more than two decades across professional practice, academic leadership, project management, and advisory roles. At IE University and IE Business School, Juan has managed academic programmes, taught architecture and social impact, and supported projects that connect students with real-world challenges. His experience also includes work in Ghana through the Social Impact Lab, contributing to microfinance, water, and sanitation projects with students and local communities.

Alongside his academic and consulting work, Juan has founded and led architectural initiatives focused on urban planning, building renovation, environmental impact, and sustainability. He brings a practical, systems-oriented, and socially engaged perspective to projects that explore how places, institutions, and communities can be designed to create more meaningful and lasting impact.
