B Corp™ Certification: A Growing Opportunity for Ireland's Food Businesses

B Corp™ certification isn't a niche credential anymore. It's a global movement of over 10,000 companies across more than 100 countries, all held to the same standard: verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to consider the impact of every decision - not just on shareholders, but on workers, communities, customers, and the planet.

Ireland's food and beverage sector is a growing part of that movement. Companies like Ballymaloe, The Happy Pear, Cloud Picker Coffee, Velo Coffee, Bread 41, O'Briens Fine Foods, and Strong Roots are just some of the Irish food businesses that have gone through certification; a signal that this isn't reserved for large multinationals with dedicated sustainability teams. It's increasingly built by the same kind of independent, values-led food businesses that make up much of Ireland's food scene.

You can see the full, current list of certified and pending Irish B Corps via B Corp's Ireland country partner page: bcorporation.eu/country_partner/ireland.

Why it's worth paying attention:

For a food or drinks business, B Corp certification does a few things at once:

  • It gives your brand a verified story, not just a stated one. Customers, retailers, and investors are increasingly sceptical of sustainability claims that aren't backed by anything external. B Corp™ certification is independently assessed and re-verified on a consistent basis.

  • It opens doors. A growing number of retailers, distributors, and B2B buyers actively favour or require certified suppliers. Being part of the B Corp™ community also means being part of a network of businesses that refer work to each other and collaborate on shared challenges.

  • It sharpens the business itself. The certification process forces a genuinely useful audit of governance, worker treatment, community impact, environmental practice, and customer stewardship. Most businesses find real operational gaps they hadn't measured before.

  • It adds momentum to a movement that benefits everyone in it. Each new certified food business in Ireland makes the standard more visible and more credible here, for customers, for policymakers, and for the next business considering the same step.

Where to start
