Introducing Behaviour Change for Sustainability

We’re excited to share the launch of our new Udemy course, Behaviour Change for Sustainability.

After months of development, reflection, and collaboration, this course brings together two areas we care deeply about at Colectivo: sustainability and behavioural science. It was created for people and organisations who want to move beyond good intentions and start creating change that actually lasts.

Why this course, and why now?

Across organisations, sustainability ambitions are growing. ESG targets, climate commitments, and transition plans are becoming more common, but many teams still struggle to turn these ambitions into everyday action.

What we often see is not a lack of motivation or concern, but a gap between intention and action. Sustainability strategies exist on paper, but behaviours, habits, and routines don’t always shift in practice.

That’s where behaviour change comes in.

Sustainability is shaped by behaviour

Behind every sustainability goal are people making decisions every day, how work gets done, how resources are used, how new processes are adopted, and how priorities are balanced.

Behaviour Change for Sustainability focuses on this human side of transformation. Rather than asking what organisations should do, the course explores how change actually happens through people, environments, and systems.

What the course covers

The course introduces practical, accessible tools to help learners understand and design behaviour-led sustainability initiatives, including:

  • The role of behaviour in sustainability transitions

  • The Intention-Action Gap and why it appears so often

  • The COM-B model (Capability, Opportunity, Motivation)

  • The importance of a Just Transition and inclusive change

  • Setting SMART goals that support real behaviour change

Throughout the course, learners are encouraged to reflect on their own context and apply these ideas to real organisational challenges.

Who it’s for

Behaviour Change for Sustainability is designed for professionals at all levels, from sustainability and ESG roles to HR, operations, leadership, and change management. No prior knowledge of behavioural science is required.

Whether you’re leading sustainability initiatives or supporting them from within a team, the course offers practical insights you can apply immediately.

A natural companion to Sustainability in Practice

This course also complements our existing programme, Sustainability in Practice (SIP), which focuses on ESG foundations, organisational context, and goal-setting. Together, SIP and BCS provide both the strategic understanding and the behavioural tools needed to drive meaningful sustainability action.
