Launching the Colectivo Book Club
Our team often receives inquiries about recommended films, documentaries, and books that offer a deeper understanding of essential sustainability topics. To address this, we are launching the Colectivo Book Club this year, and invite you to follow along! We’ve put together a curated list of books that get you to think critically and creatively around things like global economics, eco-practices, ageing economies, mental health…
How it works:
Every two months, we will announce a MUST WATCH film, book, or documentary and provide reflection prompts. Keep an eye out for these announcements on our blog, and Linkedin.
The themes for each selection will be announced soon.
Every other month, we will share a concise "takeaways" summary. This summary is designed to help you compare your own ideas or facilitate discussions with a group, such as colleagues, friends, neighbours, or even your housemate, to broaden collective knowledge.
Ways to Engage with Colectivo's Picks:
DIY (Do It Yourself): Read and Reflect
This option guarantees you'll get through 5-6 key reads this year. Simply read the selected book or watch the film on your own. Every second month, compare your own reflections and ideas with the key takeaways shared in our official blog posts.DIG (Do It as a Group): Discuss and Connect
Organize a group! Gather friends, colleagues, peers, or classmates to follow this format. Meet once every other month to discuss the featured book or film. Our takeaway blogs can be used as helpful discussion prompts. This is a great way to boost community awareness without the stress of curating your own reading lists!
Our First Pick: Let My People Go Surfing: The Education of a Reluctant Businessman by Yvon Chouinard
Why we chose it: This book embodies the spirit of integrating environmental and social responsibility into business. It’s a perfect example of how purpose and profit can go hand in hand, and it’s a cornerstone for anyone looking to build a values-driven organisation.
As companies, we can ask ourselves: how can we embed responsible business values deeper into our organisation? How can we ensure our activities avoid harm and contribute positively to key challenges of our times?
